From the beginning, the saplings that Old Hickory used were considered unnecessary underbrush in the big timber forests; so by using them, they helped the larger timbers to flourish (and used a product that would normally go to waste). Those same hickory saplings were naturally regenerative, too. Once cut, they re-sprouted a new sapling from the same stump. Way back in 1991, a Purdue University Professor of Silviculture wrote the letter below to the President of Old Hickory Furniture, complimenting his company on how “sustainable” their furniture was. As we all try to do our part to keep Planet Earth as green as it can be, Good’s of Kewanee is proud to offer the Old Hickory brand. We are inclined to think that our dearly beloved Ms. Garbo would have been even more pleased to enjoy her Old Hickory chair; knowing just how gentle she was being on the Planet. |
